Gov School Part 1
July 12th, 2004 by Stephanie @ 7:50 pmGov school part 1 So the first day was very hectic, no one really knew what was going on. We got our laptops but couldn’t connect yet, without the cords, then we had robotics, i forget if i told you but if i didn’t, we have to build a robot with legos, which we did and have to make it navigate around a sheet of paper, easy. our first real project is to have it follow a line, send a message to go through a gate and read a message and follow one of many lines depending on what the message said our last project is to make our robot play soccer with an infrared ball. sound familiar? last part, flocking to an infrared beacon? yea so some people don’t know how to program at all
we had random guest speakers on tuesday i was sort of half asleep, then we had a bus tour of the campus, then a presentation skills workshop where they want to show our videos to the whole gov school, so they can assess how we can improve
statics is just like freebody diagraming physics, with x,y, and z i don’t like vector’s cross product all that much with the i,j, and k, if you remember, i forget what the teacher is like, oh yea, he’s pretty normal, a grad student. then we have our projects, i’m in the biomed group.
our teacher person is called Mehmet, I think he’s turkish because the way his body is shaped is like Alish’s and he somewhat looks like him not really, oh well, he hasn’t talked to us much like he’s supossed to. so far our project is pretty simple, very simple compared to the other projects. we just have to monitor subjects circulatory and respiratory rates, before, during and after excercise to see how different factors can affect this i.e. gender.
today we got to hook electrodes up to us, i was the first test patient, so i had wired coming out of me and they were measuring my heart rate. the first thing i had to do was lay still and not talk or laugh for the 20 seconds, you might imagine, this was hard for me, but i did get it on the second try, without laughing that is, and then we had to sit up and not laugh some more. then we had to exercise or do something to increase our heart rate, so i was jumping, spazing, frolicing around the room, it was fun to watch I suposse, then we hooked the wires back up, and i was successful in increasing my heart rate. then this guy went, sean, he fences at his school, i found this out, because when it was his turn to exercise he was doing some fencing manuevers, so he’s cool because he can jump around for practically no reason. but yea, this councelor blase is like never to be found, grrr, but I still want index and pendulum =P
our newer math teacher is really cool. like he’s completely crazy and insane. he jumps around the classroom, and balances himself on lecturnes, and sites, weird indian style on tables. He clucks, yells, and makes other weird sounds, and he’s like old too, not like grad student, but he’s like head of math department at rutgers, so yea. Just insanely crazy, after the first day, only 3 people were sitting in the front row.
another class we had is internet technology, so far, we’re just learning about number systems, and how colors like on websites are hex, and he said raise your hand if you do webdesign, and he was like that’s it??, and that’s totally what I was thinking. he’s like what does FFFFFF mean, and some kid yelled out black, and then I yelled out white, and we were like the only two who responded, and he was like raise your hand if you think it’s black…then white, thank goodness more people raised their hand for white, omg, it’s so weird, he’s like what’s pure blue, i actually raised my hand for the first time at gov school to say 0000FF so yea, that’s that class
socially, i hang out with a lot of different people, i met a dancer and we’re doing something for the talent show to music from center stage, (michelle) but I mostly hang out with erica, yea. we don’t have that much free time, (except I suposse sunday if you don’t go home) and there are never any plans for anything, like going out or off campus, or going to the gym, they like to tell us 15 minutes before we go, meet back here in 5 minutes, and we’re going. so everything is like spontaneous. if you’re interested I’ll tell you the boy situation here. I’m determined not to be attached to another student here (as in boyfriend), but I don’t think I’ll have a problem if I try, or rather not try. I just want to basically become friends with mostly everyone. so yea,…write me if you want to hear about raccoon, squirrel, or panda (erica and my names for various boys)
